Meals on Wheels fights area hunger, seeks volunteers

There was an additional volunteer driver for Morgantown Area Meals on Wheels Friday morning when Monongalia County Commissioner Tom Bloom helped others distribute 90 fresh, hot meals to people on the client list.

“The amount of food insecurity in this area is great and most people don’t realize how programs such as Meals on Wheels meet that need,” said Bloom, who picked up meals at the MOW kitchen and distributed them to other drivers at Rock Forge Presbyterian. Then he delivered the meals of fish and fresh vegetables to clients in Unity Manor.

“Morgantown could not function without the good work of its nonprofit programs,” said Bloom, noting that 100% of the meals are delivered by volunteers every day of the week.

The nonprofit is currently in need of additional drivers. The average route takes less than two hours to complete and provides Morgantown residents a warm smile and a hot meal.
