PREP ROUNDUP: Clay-Battelle volleyball falls to Gilmer in 3 sets; Trinity Christian Middle football blows over CB 72-0

BLACKSVILLE, W.Va.  — Clay-Battelle (4-9) hosted Gilmer County Thursday night, falling in three sets.

Camren Watson had nine kills and two blocks; Harley Tennant had eight digs and six kills; Evie Rush had nine assists; Lily Currence had nine digs; and Kendal Saul had seven assists.

The CeeBees nearly took the match to four sets, but Gilmer County prevailed, closing Set 3 26-24.

The Titans won Set 1 25-17 and Set 2 25-20. Clay Battelle will next host Hundred at home on Monday at 6 p.m.

University 188, Laurel Highlands 217

MORGANTOWN, W.Va.  — The UHS golf team closed out its regular season on Thursday hosting Laurel Highlands High School at the Mountainview Golf Course.

Jack Giobbia led the Hawks with a score of 43 on the par 36 front nine.

Jeff Golembiewski and Megan Joyce each shot 46 to lead the Mustangs.

The Hawks’ next event is the Region I tournament Monday at Williams Country Club in Weirton. They will face Morgantown, Brooke, Preston, John Marshall and Wheeling Park.

Trinity Christian 72 Clay-Battelle 0

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Trinity Christian (3-0) controlled its Thursday night game against Clay-Battelle, giving multiple players opportunity to score.

James Fortney-Garbart had four touchdowns in the air and one on the ground, and Jaylon Hill picked up one touchdown in each offensive category — passing, rushing and receiving.

Carmelo Kniska logged two receiving scores and returned one punt to the house.

Ben Lohmann and Jack Boyd accounted for the final receiving touchdowns, while James Harper, Matthew Stellato and Chase Swafford each rushed for one touchdown. Lydia Knight accounted for four points on extra point attempts.

Trinity next takes on Braxton Middle in Sutton on Oct. 3.
