Police in Preston and Monongalia search for accused felon

KINGWOOD — Police continued to search Wednesday for Mark Allen Hart, who they say ran from officers Tuesday and stole a car.

Preston Chief Deputy P.A. Pritt said Wednesday that Hart, 33, of Morgantown, is still at large and was last seen in Monongalia County.

“He has warrants active in Mon and Preston,” Pritt said Wednesday.

A Preston deputy spotted Hart walking along W.Va. 92 in Arthurdale Tuesday afternoon and tried to stop him, because of the warrants, Capt. J.H. Bryan said earlier.

During the pursuit, Hart stripped to his boxers and swam across a pond. He was later seen on CR Road in a Subaru he is accused of stealing from a residence on the road. Police lost him in a chase and the car was later found by West Virginia State Police on Cobun Creek Road, in Monongalia County.

Anyone with information about Hart’s whereabouts is asked to call the Preston County Sheriff’s Office at 304-329-1611 or their local police department.
