Mylan Park Aquatic Center membership fees announced

MORGANTOWN — A full one-year membership to the new aquatic center in Mylan Park will cost an individual $486, a couple $844 and a family $1,512.

Current WVU students can access the facility for free.

This according to information provided by Mylan Park General Manager Keith Hernstrom. Hernstrom said the park plans to release the information publicly sometime on Monday.

Social media posts purporting to show the memberships rates generated hundreds of comments Monday morning. Hernstrom explained that those rates actually pertain specifically to members of Club Mountaineer, a youth aquatics program. He said the club has guaranteed that all its members will purchase a membership.

Along with memberships, $6 one-day passes will be available, as will five-punch passes for $25 and 10-punch passes for $40.

Other membership avenues include: Corporate/Military/ Senior — Individual ($389), couple ($670) and family ($1,318).

WVU Faculty/Staff — Individual ($438), couple ($767), family ($1,415).

WVU Students — Individual (free), couple ($358), family ($1,188).

The couple memberships can be for any two individuals. Family memberships are for up to six related family members.

Hernstrom said that along with renting the facility to be the home of WVU Swimming and Diving, WVU has allocated a portion of student fees to provide student memberships as well as space for academic classes previously held at the WVU Natatorium.

The $35 million aquatic center will serve as the home of WVU and prep swimming and diving. The facility will feature a 50-meter competition pool as well as a diving pool with a dive tower and springboards.

It will also house a 25-meter community pool along with amenities like slides and an outdoor splash pad. The second and third floors will house workout facilities, office space and classrooms.

Officials have said the aquatic center will likely have a public opening in early November.
