New Jersey 3-star forward Taj Thweatt commits to West Virginia

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. — Bob Huggins added his second recruit for the 2020 recruiting class Tuesday, when New Jersey 3-star forward Taj Thweatt tweeted he had committed to the Mountaineers.

Thweatt, listed at 6-foot-7 and 195 pounds, averaged 20.2 points and 10.7 rebounds at Wildwood (N.J.) Catholic as a junior. He is listed as a 3-star player by both Rivals and 247 Sports.

He chose the Mountaineers over Florida, Penn State and Temple. Thweatt also had Seton Hall, Miami, Illinois and Rhode Island in his list of eight final schools.

Thweatt joins ESPN top 100 recruit Isaiah Cottrell in the Mountaineers’ 2020 class. The earliest Cottrell and Thweatt could sign a national letter-of-intent is in November.

WVU first offered Thweatt a scholarship in August and the forward recently took an unofficial visit to the Morgantown campus.

With the graduations of Jermaine Haley, Logan Routt and Chase Harler, the Mountaineers are expected to have three open scholarships for 2020.
