Hill, Abdalah lead way in Mountaineers’ third place finish at Lehigh

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Olivia Hill, Marianne Abdalah and redshirt freshman Malina Mitchell led the Mountaineers to a third place finish at the Lehigh Invitational Friday.

Hill, a redshirt senior placed second overall with a time of 21:57.36, and Abdalah took fourth at 22:18.23 — a career-best for the redshirt sophomore. Mitchell (11th, 22: 51.27) placed the highest of three redshirt freshmen, with Peyton Kukura and Amber Dombrowski placing 25th and 31st, respectively.

“Racing in 80-plus temperatures provided an interesting racing environment,” coach Sean Cleary said. “I am very pleased with the five that we lined up today … We had three lifetime-best times out of five, and we’re leaving with the experience needed for the entire team when we return to Lehigh in November for the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships.”

West Virginia will next tackle Penn State’s course at the Spiked Shoe Invitational in University Park, Pa., on Sept. 13.
