Mary Hamilton

Mary Jane Hamilton of Acworth, Ga., passed away Aug. 22, 2019, at home surrounded by family.

Mary Jane was born June 10, 1924, in Atlanta, the daughter of the late Ewell Grady and Clara Jane Pope. She graduated from Douglasville High in 1941, attended business college in Atlanta and married John R. Hamilton in 1946. In 1964 they moved from Athens, Ga., to Morgantown. In 2015, she moved to Acworth where she would spend the remainder of her years.

After retiring from WVU School of Pharmacy, Mary Jane volunteered in many organizations in the community of Morgantown, where she lived for 51 years. In addition to her volunteer work, she and her husband enjoyed going to football and basketball games, plays and concerts, taking senior courses offered by OLLI and traveling both in the USA and abroad. Her real passion was for her family and she cherished the relationship she had with her husband, children and their spouses and grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, John R. Hamilton. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Ewell Pope Jr.

She is survived her loving family which includes a son, David Starke Hamilton and wife Laurie of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; a daughter, Celia Reed and husband Michael of Atlanta, her four grandchildren Karen (Nat) Smith of Newport, Pa., Brain (Allison) Hamilton of Malvern, Pa., Joshua (Andrea) Reed of Atlanta, Jessica (Sam) Vautier of Jersey, UK, and two stepgrandchildren, Kimberly (Kevin) Mahoney and Michael (Jennifer) James of Mechanicsburg. She also has 10 great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Acworth, Ga., and private interment at West Virginia National Cemetery in Grafton.
