Hazel Edna (Poling) Guseman

Hazel Edna (Poling) Guseman, 95, of Reedsville, passed away Monday, Aug. 12, 2019, at Windy Hill Village in Kingwood, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Blacksville, on Dec. 12, 1923, a daughter of the late Cyrus E. and Alice (Keener) Poling.

Hazel was an avid hunter and enjoyed the outdoors and traveling. She was a member of the Kingwood Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She was employed by Sillman Manufacturing in Arthurdale, during World War II, the Pajama Factory and Reedsville Dairy Queen. She was a charter member of the Reedsville Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.

Hazel is survived by one son, John W. Guseman of Reedsville; three daughters, Carolyn Thorne and husband John of New Haven, Paula Eble of Omaha, Neb., and Leanna Summers and husband, Michael, of Reedsville; five grandchildren, Randall Thorne, Marcia Weaver, Brian Eble, Michelle Eble-Hankins and Christopher J. Guseman; six great-grandchildren, Holly, Lindsey, Eric, Sophia, Marcus and Matthew; a special friend, Thelma Garbart, of Kingwood; and her cat, Alice.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul W. Guseman; two brothers, Milford Poling and Willis Poling; and two sisters, Beulah Paugh and Jeanetta Aho.

Friends may call at the Field Funeral Home in Masontown on Thursday, Aug. 15, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. and on Friday, Aug. 16, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. service time at the funeral home with Darwin Turner officiating. Interment will follow in the Reedsville Cemetery.
