West Virginia paired with Missouri in Big 12/SEC Challenge

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. — The Big 12 and Southeastern conferences announced the pairings Thursday for the annual men’s basketball rivalry pairings and West Virginia will host Missouri on Jan. 25.

It will be the fifth all-time meeting between the two schools. The series is tied, 2-2. The last meeting came during the AdvoCare Invitational in 2017, with the Mountaineers overcoming a 16-point deficit to pull out an 83-79 victory.

The Tigers, behind head coach Cuonzo Martin, finished 15-17 last season and was 12th in the SEC.

Martin is 35-30 in his two seasons at Missouri, leading the Tigers to the 2018 NCAA tournament in his first season.

Missouri returns three starters, as well as junior guard Mark Smith, who averaged 11.4 points per game last season before a foot injury cost him the second half of the season.

Missouri also added 4-star freshman forward Tray Jackson in it’s recruiting class and will have the services of Dru Smith, a transfer from Evansville who sat out last season due to NCAA transfer rules.

The Mountaineers are just 1-5 in the Big 12/SEC Challenge games, with the victory coming against Texas A&M in 2017.
