Alleged grocery thief arrested, charged

A woman who allegedly stole almost $400 in
groceries from Kroger and the man driving her
after the fact were arrested on Wednesday.
Samantha S. Swaney, 39, of Morgantown is charged with third offense shoplifting and Thomas Delmer Wilson, 46, of Dellslow, is charged with harboring a fugitive.
The Monongalia County Sheriff’s department responded to the shoplifting call about 3:30 a.m.
Kroger employees told deputies the shoplifter was a woman wearing a hat, and she got into a black Audi driven by a man, according to a criminal complaint.
The vehicle was found on Mileground Road. The driver sped away when he saw the deputy’s vehicle but the deputy caught up, going about 90 mph at one point, and stopped the vehicle.
Wilson was driving, Swaney was the passenger and there were several grocery bags of items from Kroger clearly visible in the back seat. According to the complaint, Swaney admitted that she stole the groceries and was arrested. The total value of the stolen items is $391.22.
Chief Deputy Al Kisner said Wilson could still face charges for fleeing from an officer but was only charged with the felony, and any misdemeanors would be contained in an indictment. The next grand jury term is in September.
