Storms, stifling heat unlikely to let up

MORGANTOWN — That stifling heat and humidity currently clamped down on north-central West Virginia isn’t going away anytime soon, AccuWeather says.

And those lashing rains could be coming back, as well.

Look for a chance of spotty thunderstorms Wednesday night with the possibility of a heavy storm Thursday, said Alex Sosnowski, a senior meteorologist with AccuWeather.

It’s all part of the same storm system that has disrupted the northeastern U.S., and north-central West Virginia, over the past several days, he said.
Said system in our area last Friday downed trees and power lines in Morgantown. Another round Saturday brought flooding to the Cheat Lake area.

In the meantime, also expect a high of 91 today, Sosnowski said, with not much mercury-relief into the weekend.

Along with the possibility of heavy rain, Thursday could top out at 85 degrees, he said.

Sunny skies and temperatures continuing to hover in the 80s are expected Friday and Saturday.

The mercury on Sunday is expected to inch back up to near 90, with another chance of thunderstorms.
