Walter Thomas

Walter Hagen Thomas, 90, of Thornton, passed away at his residence on Saturday, April 6, 2019. He was born February 18, 1929, in Taylor County, a son of the late Andrew Ross and Grace Murray Thomas.
Walter served in the United States Army from 1949-1951.  Walter was a great guy, very strong, independent and a self-made man. He loved the outdoors and he was always happy to be working.  He also enjoyed hunting and playing cards.  Walter was a gambler and hustler and he had an enormous amount of pride and respect for himself and others. He will be missed by all.
Walter worked for the B&O Railroad.  He owned many business including the Roundup Bar and Grill, Louisville, Ky., Mt Top Inn on Laurel Mountain,  RT 50  Club, Red Barn, Pink House, Red Carpet Inn and Debbie’s Pantry.
He is survived by his many friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded death by one sister, Ruth Terthorse; and  one brother, Arthur Murray Thomas.
Friends will be received at Bartlett Funeral Home, 202 McGraw Ave., from 11 a.m.  on Tues., April 9, to 1 p.m.  Graveside service will be heldat Mt Zion Cemetery, Moatsville, at 2 p.m., with Pastor Jimmy Johnson officiating.
