MORGANTOWN, W. Va. — West Virginia’s first game in the Big 12/Big East scheduling alliance will be on the road against St. John’s in December.
The conferences announced all 10 matchups Thursday in an alliance that will run through the 2022-23 season.
The dates of the game will be determined later.
As the home team, St. John’s will have the right to determine the arena and the Red Storm rotate between their on-campus venue in Carnesecca Arena and Madison Square Garden, although MSG is used for the higher-profie games.
Last season, the Red Storm played 12 of their 17 home games during the regular season at Carnesecca, including five of their nine home Big East games.
Fox Sports will have the broadcasting rights to the five games played at Big East arenas, while ESPN will have the rights to the five games played at Big 12 arenas.
West Virginia is 20-17 all-time against the Red Storm, but is 8-12 on the road. The two schools last played on Jan. 25, 2012, the Mountaineers final season in the Big East.
St. John’s finished 21-13 and lost to Arizona State, 74-65 in the First Four of the NCAA Tournament this season.
The Red Storm are scheduled to have four starters return, although junior guard Shamorie Ponds (19.7 ppg) announced he was signing with an agent and was entering the 2019 NBA Draft.
West Virginia is also awaiting its matchup in the annual Big 12/SEC Challenge, which is played in January. The Mountaineers are in line to host a game in that series next season after traveling to Tennessee this season.
