Saint Joseph pulls away in 2nd half to defeat Wheeling Central 75-47

CHARLESTON — The Irish (22-4) outscored the Maroon Knights 30-7 in the third quarter, which ended up being the deciding factor in the game as Saint Joseph defeated Wheeling Central, 75-47.

The win puts Saint Joseph into the Class A title game against Parkersburg Catholic at noon Saturday. It also allowed the Irish to avenge last year’s loss to Wheeling Central in the championship, which prevented Saint Joseph from winning a ninth title in 10 years.

All five Irish starters scored in double figures led by Hannah Roberts’ 15. Freshman Dionna Gray added 14 points.

Eden Gainer led all players with 26 points for Wheeling Central (16-10).
