Kaden Metheny nets 24, University defeats Buckhannon-Upshur 94-44

BECKLEY — University boys’ basketball team had an offensive explosion Friday evening, defeating Buckhannon-Upshur 94-44.

The Hawks missed very few shots in the convincing win in the Big Atlantic Classic. They made 38 shots, including seven 3-pointers, and collected 27 assists in the contest.

Kaden Metheny led University (13-3) in scoring with 24 points, and also tallied seven assists — he finished the game shooting 11 of 14 from the floor. K.J. McClurg was the team’s second-leading scorer with 17 points and Rodney Bucklew scored 15. Coming off the bench, Javier Reyes netted 14 points, making four 3-pointers in the process. Mike Maumbe also tallied 10 rebounds.

The Hawks will play again at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Brooke.
