Donna Sanders

Donna F. Sanders, 70, of Morgantown, passed away Friday, January 11, 2019, surrounded by her husband and two children, after complications with Pulmonary Fibrosis.  She was born January 2, 1949, in Morgantown,  daughter of Jeanne Furman, of Morgantown and of the late Donald Furman.

She graduated Morgantown High School 1966, and began her career at First National Bank (Huntington Bank). After a couple years, she then began working at Sanders Floor Covering and Seneca Center until retirement in 2012.  After retirement, she then managed Inglewood Apartments with her son, Matthew.

Donna was active in support of her daughter, Leigh, with her swimming career.  She became very involved with the sport for many years supporting Mountaineer Aquatic Club, as well as Morgantown High School Swimming.

Throughout her life, she loved traveling and activities such as aerobics, biking, running and was an avid dancer. Her dancing began at age three and continued throughout her life.  Most recently she loved choreographing dance routines and performing with the String of Pearls tap dancing group. The String of Pearls, “The Girls” were a second family to her.

She also enjoyed the outdoors, including fishing and hiking, especially at their property out of town.

The biggest joy of the last five years was spending time with her two grandchildren, Andrew and Bryson.

In addition to her mother, Jeanne Furman, she is survived by her husband of 41 years, Richard “Rick” J. Sanders; two children, Mathew J. Sanders, of Morgantown and Leigh Sanders Pell and husband, R.J.; two grandchildren, Andrew and Bryson, of Bristow, Va.; sister, Brenda Stoneking and husband, Jay; and nieces, Jayme Garrison and Stacey Eure.

She was preceded in death by her father, Donald Furman.

Family will receive friends at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street, Morgantown,  from 4 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 17, until the time of the memorial service at 7 p.m.

Donna was very passionate about animals and their care, so, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Animal Friends, P O Box 1090, Dellslow, WV  26531 in her memory.
