Anne Ervin

Anne Louise (Fadeley) Ervin, 91, died peacefully at her home in Bridgeport,  on the morning of Thursday, December 27, 2018, following an extended period of declining health. She had been under the attentive care of her older daughter, Anne Elizabeth (Beth), who shared the home, which overlooks Anne’s beloved West Virginia hills.
Anne was born October 8, 1927, in Richmond, Va., and was the youngest child of the late Howard Malone Fadeley and Georgia Elizabeth (Champe) Fadeley. Her childhood years were spent in Montgomery. She was a participant in the 1940 National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. Also during her youth, Anne became an accomplished pianist, performing with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra. After graduating as co-valedictorian from Montgomery High School in 1945, she attended Marshall University and the Mason College of Music and Fine Arts. She subsequently pursued studies at West Virginia State College (University) and West Virginia University.
Anne married Joseph Robert Ervin, of East Bank, on August 17, 1949. The union lasted until his death on September 24, 1999, just after their 15 anniversary. Anne and Joseph, who taught band and chorus at schools in Marion, Va.and in Roane, Kanawha, and Monongalia Counties, raised five children together.
Anne, an accomplished organist as well as a pianist, and Joseph, as choir director, together served the congregations of several churches in the Kanawha Valley and Morgantown. Their longest joint tenure was at St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church, in St. Albans. After the family moved in 1970, to Morgantown, she worked in the Dean’s Office of the WVU College of Human Resources and Education and, subsequently, in Monongalia County Schools Instructional Materials Center and Board of Education main office annex.
Anne was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband. She was the last of her siblings, preceded in death by her two sisters, Charlotte (Fadeley) Edmundson and Mary Howard (Fadeley) Bouldin; and by her brother, Charles F. Fadeley, LCDR, USN (Ret.).
She is survived by sons, Joseph, Jr., of Star City, Doug, of Ashton, Idaho, and Charles D. and spouse Catherine Nagle-Ervin, of Tiffin, Ohio; daughter, Anne Elizabeth, and daughter and spouse, Catherine R. (Ervin) and Joseph Monahan, all of Bridgeport. Anne’s grandson, Miguel Fortney-Henriquez and his spouse, Gage, and her granddaughter, Eliana Henriquez, are all students at West Virginia University.

The children of Anne F. Ervin wish to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Lauren Tomes and to the staff of Amedisys Hospice Care, of Anmoore, for their devoted care for our mother in her final months.
