Morgantown girls’ basketball team shows potential despite 59-54 loss at Parkersburg South

PAKRERSBURG — Struggles at the free throw line late doomed the Morgantown High girls’ basketball team in its 59-54 loss at Parkersburg South on Thursday, but head coach Jason White likes what he saw from his group.
“The kids played at a different level tonight than they did in their previous four games,” he said. “We played a lot closer to our potential — I’m proud of the kids and the way they battled in a tough road environment. South is in the same boat as us and both teams really fought hard, we just came up a little short.”
The Mohigans missed eight of their 11 free throw attempts in the fourth quarter after having a lead at halftime. The Patriots were led by Sierra Hayes, with 25 points. MHS’s Kaitlyn Ammons had 23 points and Maddy Seman added 16.
The Mohigans (1-4) will play at Brooke at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
