Stephen Wayne Thomas

Stephen Wayne Thomas, 72, of Morgantown, passed away Monday, Dec. 3, 2018, at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital, in Morgantown.

Born July 21, 1946, in Borger, Texas, he was a son of the late Wayne and Lydia Rivas (Billingsley) Thomas.

Stephen is survived by his wife of 44 years, Sharon Carmean Thomas; a daughter, Mary Ellen Thomas, of Cheat Lake; two stepchildren, Sheri Marino and Michele Renae Touch and her husband, KC, all of Oroville, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two siblings, David Thomas and Marie Williams, making Mr. Thomas the last surviving member of his immediate family.

He was a member of the Sabraton Baptist Church, and heavily involved and proud of his work that he did with Gideon’s International. In his spare time, he enjoyed traveling, fishing and camping.

Stephen lived a great life. He gave his family the gift of beautiful fellowship through thoughtful prayers and goodbyes, as he suffered through his final days. Although his trials were harder than most anyone else could ever fathom, his faith truly showed the power and existence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Stephen’s request for cremation has been honored by his family.

A memorial service to celebrate his life and legacy will be held at Sabraton Baptist Church, 1641 Sabraton Ave., in Morgantown, at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, followed by a reception in the church hall for those attending the service.

Though flowers will be accepted at the church, the family suggests contributing in Stephen’s memory to Gideon’s International, P.O. Box 140800, Nashville, TN 37214-0800.

Professional services have been provided to the family with the guidance of Smith Funeral & Cremation Care of Morgantown.
