Stacy Fint

Stacy Shockley Fint, of Aurora, passed away December 3,2018, at the age of 65, surrounded by her family. She lived life with great enthusiasm and will be greatly missed.

Stacy was born in 1953, in Johnstown, Pa., to Joshua A. Shockley, Jr. and Glendora Lee Nine Shockley.
She spent much of her childhood in Bayard. As a student at Southern Garrett High School, she was a Rotary Exchange student for a year in Brazil and became fluent in Portuguese, an experience that went on to influence the rest of her life. She graduated from West Virginia University with a B.S. in Political Science in 1975.

In 1976, she married Joseph W. Fint and moved to Aurora, where they raised three children. She considered being a wife and mother her highest calling. Stacy was also passionate about community service, and was a frequent school volunteer, longtime leader of the Aurora Pioneers 4-H Club and active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. She was a substitute teacher and loved being a friend to kids.

As her children got older, Stacy embarked on a second career teaching English as a Second Language and worked diligently over many years to obtain her master’s degree in TESOL from WVU in 1997. She started as a part-time instructor at the WVU Intensive English Program and rose to the position of director. Stacy was not only an educator, but a stand-in mother to international students from across the globe.

Stacy is survived by her husband of 42 years, Joe; children, Courtney (Greg) Zimmerman, of Akron, Ohio, Joseph (Indhy) Fint, of Lone Tree, Colo., Rebecca (Brent) Fint-Clark, of Morgantown; grandchildren, Aurora “Rory” Clark and Finn and Oliver Zimmerman; sister, Clara Shockley, of Savannah, Ga.; and many beloved extended family, nieces and nephews, friends, colleagues and students.
Preceding her in death were her parents; maternal grandparents, Edwin F. “Rab” and Gladys Purgitt Nine and paternal grandparents, Joshua A. and Mary Swindell Shockley.

Visitation will be held  at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church from 2 – 4  p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m. on Thrusday, Dec. 6. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on  Friday, Dec. 7,  with the Rev. Michael Wright officiating. Interment will follow in the Aurora Cemetery.
