Tynice Martin’s double-double leads West Virginia to easy win over Eastern Kentucky

BIMINI, THE BAHAMAS — Redshirt junior guard Tynice Martin notched a double-double, leading five Mountaineers to double-figures, as the No. 25 West Virginia women’s basketball team capped the Junkanoo Jam with an 81-39 win over Eastern Kentucky on Saturday at Gateway Christian Academy in Bimini, Bahamas.

Martin tallied 17 points and 11 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. Redshirt sophomore guard Kysre Gondrezick recorded 17 points and six assists to the scoresheet as well. Senior forward Naomi Davenport finished with 13 points, while senior guard Katrina Pardee added 12 and freshman guard Madisen Smith recorded her second straight game in double digits with 11 points.

West Virginia (4-1) shot 45.9 percent from the field and 34.6 percent from beyond the arc, holding a 43-29 edge in rebounds and committing just four turnovers.

Eastern Kentucky (0-5) was led by 13 points from Catie Kaifes. The Colonels shot 29.2 percent from the field with 18 turnovers. WVU and EKU will meet again on Dec. 15 at the Charleston Coliseum & Civic Center in Charleston, West Virginia.

The Mountaineers return to action to host Missouri at 5p.m. Dec. 2 at the WVU Coliseum as part of the SEC/Big 12 Challenge.
