Loretta Smith

Loretta Ann “Cricket” Smith, 74, of Westover, passed away Monday afternoon, October 15, 2018, at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital, in Morgantown.
She was born October 26, 1943, in Chapmanville,  a daughter of the late Hudson and Goldie (Vance) Ashby.
Survivors include her husband, Steve Smith; a daughter, Paula Vernon, of Okla.; her grandchildren, Jennifer Friedlander and her husband Jason, of Ga., Amanda Vernon, of Morgantown, and Kaydie Vernon, of Ga; her great-grandchildren, Alexander (9), Amber (7), Dale (5), Sylvia (4), Amilia (2) and Annabelle (1); and a very special niece, Angela Varney.
Cricket was a strong, determined, caring and independent woman who enjoyed gardening. She was generous, almost to a fault. She loved animals, especially cats, and donated regularly to the local animal shelter. She adored her family and her grandchildren, and taught them to be as independent as she was.
Friends may join the family to honor Cricket’s life & legacy at Smith Funeral & Cremation Care, 108 Holland Ave., from 1- 3 p.m. and 6 -8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 18, and from on Friday, Oct. 19,  until 1p.m. at which time a service celebrating her life and recalling fond memories will be held by her family. Following the service, she will be laid to rest at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in Westover.
