University quarterback Logan Holgorsen ‘expected’ to play Friday against Buckhannon-Upshur

MORGANTOWN — University High quarterback Logan Holgorsen should play Friday against Buckhannon-Upshur, though a final decision will be accessed by team trainers Thursday.

“He has the heart of a lion,” head coach John Kelley said of his senior QB.

Holgorsen suffered a high-ankle sprain Sept. 28 against St. Albans and missed last week’s loss at Mountain Ridge (Md.). In his absence, J.T. Brown threw 100 yards and a touchdown but also two interceptions. Receiver Amir Richardson took snaps at quarterback, but also threw two picks, though he did have success in the running game.

“I didn’t know replacing Logan would be this hard — it gives me anew appreciation for what he does and how easy he makes it look. That was the hardest thing I’ve ever done,” Richardson said after the game.

Holgorsen has 1,385 yards and 16 touchdowns to seven interceptions with a 62 percent completion percentage. He also has 99 yards rushing, but could be limited in the running game because of his ankle.

The Hawks (3-4) have three games remaining and are tied for 13th in the current WVSSAC playoff ratings.
