Man sent to hospital in alleged 4-by-4 attack

MORGANTOWN — An Ohio man is in jail after allegedly beating a man with a 4-by-4, sending him to the hospital.
Zachary David Redd, 28, of Columbus, Ohio, is charged with malicious wounding.
Redd is accused of using a 21-inch-long piece of 4-by-4 wood to hit another man several times at a home on Main Street in Granville.
Granville Police Chief Craig Corkrean said the incident was reported at 2:39 a.m. Monday, but that the victim, Jason Simpkins, drove to his home on Williams Road before police were aware of the attack.
Simpkins was taken to the hospital with multiple injuries to his head including both temples and the back of his head, according to a criminal complaint.
The complaint stated there was a confrontation prior to the attack. Corkrean said it wasn’t clear what the two men were fighting about.
If convicted for malicious wounding, a felony, Redd will face two to 10 years in prison.
He was arraigned in Monongalia County Magistrate Court by Magistrate Sandy Holepit, who set bond at $100,000 cash or surety.
Redd has not posted bail and remains in North Central Regional Jail as of Tuesday morning.
