Fairmont Police confirm missing woman’s remains, ongoing criminal investigation

MORGANTOWN — The Fairmont Police Department will not be releasing more information on the missing Marion County woman whose dismembered remains were found in a landfill in Georgia.
That from a press releasing, saying the department does not want to jeopardize it’s investigation.
Authorities in Georgia and Fairmont confirmed the human remains found at a landfill in August are those of Courtney Nicole Dubois, 20, who was reported missing from Fairmont. Dental records were used to confirm her identity.

A press release from the Fairmont Police Department said it was only confirming the remains were Dubois because law enforcement in Georgia had put out its own release.

“Our agency WILL NOT release information that will be detrimental to this ongoing criminal investigation, in which we do have leads,” the Fairmont release read. “Our goal of being able to hold person(s) accountable is of utmost importance to us. We are confident that Courtney’s demise was an isolated incident not connected to a random act of violence and that communities … here and in Georgia … need not be unduly worried about their safety.”
