Preston County Cleanup Committee approves PCPaRC grant application

KINGWOOD — A review of a grant application from the Preston County Parks and Recreation Commission (PCPaRC) was approved by members of the Preston County Cleanup Committee this week.
The application will be presented to the Preston County Commission, which will determine if funds will be provided for the project.
PCPaRC’s Dale McVicker said $36,766 is needed to continue work at the West Virginia Northern Railroad trail head.
McVicker said some of the funds would be used to remove the maintenance building. He said a 24-inch soil cap is also needed at the location of the building and storage tanks. Storage tanks and a building foundation must also be removed, according to McVicker.

Committee President V.J. Davis said the project is a worthwhile one that will benefit the county. He will go to the commission with McVicker to present the application on Aug. 6.

In other business, County Litter Control Officer Jay Sowers said he is “pushing for an abandoned car ordinance.”

The subcommittee meeting to discuss the dilapidated building ordinance was tabled until the Aug. 15 meeting.
