Andrew Ferguson

Andrew D. Ferguson, Jr., age 78, of Uniontown, Pa., passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2018, in his home surrounded by loving family.   He was born January 27, 1940, the son of A. D. Ferguson, Sr. and Lillian Nixon Ferguson.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Saundra Overly Ferguson; three sisters, Joanne Ferguson Work, Virginia Ferguson Henderson and Sara Ferguson Bryson.

A.D. graduated from Uniontown High School with the class of 1958 and attended Grove City College.  He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and then followed in his father’s footsteps by receiving a degree in Mortuary Science from the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science.  A.D. continued operating the Andrew D. Ferguson Funeral Home in Uniontown for 56 years, 30 of those years were with his son Andy.
A.D. was a lifelong member of Asbury United Methodist Church where he served as a past Sunday School Teacher, past president of the United Methodist Men, former trustee for the church, church dart ball team and softball team.  He was also involved in Laurel Lodge #651 F & AM, Uniontown Lodge of Perfection and Pittsburgh Consistory, Uniontown Rotary Club, where he received a Paul Harris Fellowship Award, a past member of the Fayette County Easter Seals Society receiving the Brace for an Ace Award, the Uniontown Father of the Year Award in 1976, a past board member of the Uniontown Salvation Army Board, a past president of the Greater Uniontown Funeral Directors Association and the Uniontown Savings and Loan board of directors.
A.D. enjoyed working on cars with his son Jeff, listening to his son Mark play music, cooking with his son Ronnie and playing with his grandchildren. Family was first and foremost in A.D.’s life.

Left to cherish A.D.’s memory are his four sons and their families, Andrew D. Ferguson, III, of Uniontown and his children, Linzy N. Jeffries and husband Frank, of Mapletown, Lillian E. Ferguson and Andrew D. Ferguson, IV, both of Uniontown; James Ronald Ferguson and his daughter, Brianna N. Ferguson, both of Uniontown; Jeffrey H. Ferguson and his wife, Lori and their daughters, Leah and Lindy Ferguson, all of Uniontown and Mark D. Ferguson and his wife, Courtney and their children, Isabel and Elijah, all of Verona, Ore.; three great-grandchildren, Owen and Jozie Jeffries and Katelyn Myers; a brother-in-law, James D. Bryson, of Hopwood; and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the ANDREW D. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME & Crematories, Inc., in Uniontown, Pa., where family and friends will be received fron noon – 4 p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 15,  and on from 2 – 4 p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m. on Monday, July 16. Visitation will continue in the funeral home from 10 – 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 17,  followed by a service celebrating A.D.’s life with Pastor Donald Henderson officiating.  Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery
