Mountain Line’s Bruffy recognized with national transit manager award

MORGANTOWN — Mountain Line Transit Authority General Manager David Bruffy was recently recognized by his peers as one of America’s best transit managers.

He received the Community Transportation Association of America’s (CTAA) 2018 Community Manager of the Year designation during its annual expo, held in Pittsburgh.

“I was surprised when they told me I was selected, Bruffy told transit authority members earlier this week. “There are 4,000 transit systems in the country.”

In a release detailing the June 14 announcement, CTAA President Bill McDonald noted a number of achievements at Mountain Line under Bruffy’s watch, including passage of the county’s first transit levy, management of a system serving 1.25 million riders each year and growing 20 percent annually, installation of a solar power plant, previous service and safety awards and a number of other accolades.

Mountain Line Transit Authority President Jenny Dinsmore said she’s never questioned her support for Bruffy since she voted to hire him 21 years ago.

“I truly believe he is one of the most intelligent and up-to-date transit directors — absolutely the best in the state,” Dinsmore said. “He stays on top of innovation in our service, and he’s very well-regarded across the state and the country. I’m just really proud of him.”

Bruffy explained that his selection marks the second time the award has come to West Virginia. Fairmont-Marion County’s George Levitski is a previous honoree.

“Just to be nominated among the group of peers who run transit systems, and especially the ones in Pittsburgh. They’re some of the leaders in the country in public transit. To be selected out of that group, it was an honor,” Bruffy said.
