Black Bears get the better of Batavia, 4-3

BATAVIA, N.Y. — Edison Lantigua hit a bases-clearing single in the third inning, leading the West Virginia Black Bears to a 4-3 win over the Batavia Muckdogs on June 20.

After a week on the road to open the season, the Black Bears play their home opener at 7:05 p.m. June 21, against State College, at Mon County Ballpark.

The single by Lantigua scored Michael De La Cruz, Melvin Jimenez and Brett Kinneman to give the Black Bears a 3-0 lead. West Virginia added a run in the fifth on a single by Lantigua.

West Virginia right-hander Alex Manasa (1-0) picked up a quality start and the win, allowing two runs on just four hits over 6 1/3 innings in the New York-Penn League game.
