Black Bears hold on in ninth to edge Batavia, 7-6

BATAVIA, N.Y. — Logan Stoelke struck Gerardo Nunez out with the bases loaded to end the game, leading the West Virginia Black Bears to a 7-6 win over the Batavia Muckdogs on June 19.
West Virginia started the scoring in the second inning. when Jhoan Herrera hit a solo home run.
Trailing 7-3, the Muckdogs cut into the deficit in the ninth inning when Demetrius Sims scored on an error and Michael Donadio hit a two-run single.
Michael LoPresti (1-0) went two innings, allowing three runs and four hits while walking one, to get the win. Batavia’s Humberto Mejia (0-1) went
4 2/3 innings, allowing five runs and six hits, in the New York-Penn League game. He struck out two and walked three.
Herrera homered and doubled twice, driving home three runs in the win. Edison Lantigua doubled and singled twice, scoring two runs.
Stranding 12 men on base, the Muckdogs did not take advantage of some good scoring chances in the loss.
