New Kingwood police chief sworn in

KINGWOOD — New Kingwood Police Chief Charlie Haney was sworn in by Kingwood Mayor Jean Guillot during a city council meeting on June 12.

The City of Kingwood hired Haney as its new chief of police earlier this month. Haney started on June 7.

Acting Chief Jim Fields will stay on as a consultant to the police department.

Fields was brought on board after former Chief Todd Nestor and Officer Felix Thorn resigned in April. No reason has been given for their resignations.

Haney, of Kingwood, is retired from the Preston County Sheriff’s Department and served as chief deputy under former sheriff Cecil Strawser. He has more than 30 years experience in law enforcement.
