MECCA 911 now text capable, ‘text-to-911’

MORGANTOWN — The Monongalia County MECCA 911 Center is now fully text-to-911 capable.
To use this feature go to your text feature in your phone and put “911” as the text’s recipient and then start texting your emergency.
This feature is for emergency’s only and only if you’re not able to call 911 or talk, depending on your situation. Calls are preferable to texts, if possible.
Texts should be sent in plain language with as few abbreviations as possible and no emojis.
According to a press release issued by MECCA 911, the agency will be able to track the location of the text and provide the same documentation in the county that would be available on a regular 911 line.
The text-to-911 feature will not work with Facebook Messenger or any other social media messengers.
