Kingwood hires new police chief, swearing in set for June 12

KINGWOOD — The City of Kingwood has hired Charles “Charlie” Haney as its new chief of police, according to a June 7 news release.
Haney will start June 7. A formal swearing in will be conducted at the 7 p.m. June 12 city council meeting. Acting Chief Jim Fields will stay on as a consultant to the police department.
Fields was brought on board after former Chief Todd Nestor and Officer Felix Thorn resigned in April. No reason has been given for their resignations.
Haney, of Kingwood, is retired from the Preston County Sheriff’s Department and served as chief deputy under former sheriff Cecil Strawser. He has more than 30 years experience in law enforcement.
