Some BOPARC moves appear questionable

Terry Kelly, Morgantown

BOPARC recently published the summer event schedule. While there are many exciting events listed, it seems odd that no events are scheduled for the downtown amphitheater. Why do we have such a wonderful venue in downtown Morgantown that is never used?
With many bands and vocalists in Morgantown, there could be concerts scheduled there weekly. Many groups would be happy to perform free of charge or for a minimal fee. Of the seven concerts listed for the summer, not one is scheduled for the amphitheater. Is there something wrong with it that the general public is not aware of?
In the listing of “Movies in the Park,” one is listed for Paul Preserve. Many of us are wondering where exactly in Morgantown this is. Maybe a map could have been printed onto the brochure to show where all of these various venues are located.
Dorsey’s Knob Park had a beautiful wall created several years ago by many in the community honoring the history of Dorsey’s Knob (Skyrock). Two years ago, it was torn down and the artwork has not been replaced. A beige painted wall has taken its place. I’m sure BOPARC could organize groups to restore the wall to its original colorful beauty. It’s actually insulting to those who put so much effort into the design and construction of the artwork on the original wall to go see it and find it gone.
Last year, BOPARC removed all the trees around the pavilion in White Park, exposing the playground to constant sun. Children no longer can play in a nicely shaded area, and those attending events in the pavilion cannot set up chairs in shaded areas like they once could.

BOPARC has much to be proud of, but the lack of use of the amphitheater, destruction of Skyrock wall and ruining park play areas are questionable.
