Long-time Mon prosecutor ‘Ponch’ retires after 21 years

MORGANTOWN — About 50 people gathered on the third floor of the Monongalia County Justice Center Friday May 18 to celebrate with and say goodbye to a long-time prosecutor.
Dimas “Ponch” Reyes, said he decided to retire to do something new and enjoy some time off, after 21 years and two months with the Monongalia County Prosecutor’s office.
Reyes was also a trooper with West Virginia State Police for 21 years.
“It’s the end of an era,” Ami Main, who shared an office with Reyes for 13 years, said.
Reyes said he plans to teach classes part time at Defense in Depth, an indoor shooting range. He said he will miss the people he worked with most.
“The presence of Ponch in the prosecutor’s office and halls of the justice center will be missed by law enforcement, lawyers and victims,” Prosecutor Perri Jo DeChristopher said. “We appreciate his service to our community for over 20 years.”
Nicole Delaney, of the Monongalia County Victim’s Assistance Program, said she would miss his wit and sense of humor.
Trooper T.W. Goodnight said he’s worked with Ponch for 22 years and said he’s done a lot in his time.
“He’s top-shelf, a great guy,” he said.
