W. Va. — A sexual abuse charge against a Nicholas County man have been dropped in Monongalia County.

Perri Jo DeChristopher, Monongalia County prosecuting attorney, dropped the first-degree sexual abuse charge against Darrell Ray Lewis Sr., 63, of Nicholas County, before a scheduled preliminary hearing in front of Magistrate Jim Nabors Thursday.

DeChristopher said the state dismissed the case with the notation the evidence did not support the crime Lewis was charged with and that more investigation was needed.

Lewis was charged with first-degree sexual abuse for allegedly touching his daughter inappropriately.
She is incapacitated with cerebral palsy and requires total care, including nourishment through a feeding tube.

Nursing staff at WVU Medicine reported two incidents to Morgantown Police in April, leading to Lewis’ arrest, according to a criminal complaint.
