Clements to face Longwell in W. Va. state Senate race

W. Va. — In the state Senate 2nd District general election race, incumbent Republican Charles Clements will face Democrat Denny Longwell.

The outcome of the Democratic primary was unclear at Tuesday night’s publication deadline, with the secretary of state and MetroNews offering contradictory figures. The secretary’s site — which relies on submissions by county clerks — was not up to date then, and still was not by Wednesday afternoon.

According to MetroNews, with all precincts counted Wednesday morning, Longwell had 5,292 votes (59 percent) to Jones’ 3,742 (41 percent).

The 2nd District covers all of Calhoun, Ritchie, Doddridge, Tyler and Wetzel counties, and portions of Monongalia, Marion, Marshall and Gilmer.
