Eugenia Nelson

Eugenia “Jean” E. Nelson, 93, of Morgantown, passed away Friday, May 4, at Mon Health Medical Center.  She was born August 10, 1924, in Trenton, N.J., a daughter of the late Adam and Catherine (Guralski) Wilczynski.

She was a native of Trenton, N.J. but moved to Morgantown in 1992.  Mrs. Nelson was a member of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church in Star City and retired from Heinemann Electric Company.  She enjoyed many activities including crafts, writing letters to family and friends, bird watching, gardening, and crocheting afghans for the Linus Project, WIC, and St. Ursula’s Food Pantry and Outreach.

Mrs. Nelson is survived by her children, Bernadette Castranova and her husband Vincent, Cynthia Nelson and her husband Robert Speagle, Linda (McNamara) Nelson, and James Nelson and his wife Elizabeth; grandchildren, Melissa Castranova and her husband Brandon Marsh, Sarah Bates and her husband Steven, Andrew McNamara and his wife Kathleen, and Miles Nelson; great-grandchildren, Lillia Marsh and Katherine Bates; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Eugene James Nelson; siblings, Charlotte Tuohy and her husband Charles, Stanley Wilk and his wife Ann, Frank Wilk and his wife Ruth; son-in-law, Tim McNamara; and two nephews and a niece.

The family would like to thank Mon Health Medical Center, Mapleshire Nursing and Rehab Center, and Evergreen Personal Care Home for the love and support they provided.

Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, from 4-8 p.m.,  on Monday, May 7.  A Scriptural Wake Service will be held in the funeral home  at 7:30 p.m. to conclude the evening visitation.  Visitation will continue at St. Luke Catholic Church from 10-11 a.m.,  on Tuesday, May 8, with the Mass of Christian Burial to follow with Father Carlos L. Melocoton, Jr. and Father Gary Naegele as concelebrants.  Interment will take place at a later date at St. Hedwig Cemetery in Ewing, N.J.

Mrs. Nelson loved flowers and the family will be happy to receive them, but if preferred, donations may be made in her memory to St. Ursula Food Pantry and Outreach, PO Box 18, Pursglove, WV 26546.
