Amos Courtney

L. Amos Courtney, 91, of Morgantown, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at Pleasant Acres of Fairmont.

Amos was born on April 27, 1927, in Maidsville, the son of the late Harry Amos Courtney and Lillian Ola (Smyth) Courtney.

In his early adulthood, Amos went to Kiski; served in the Merchant Marines and the Army. He loved warm weather, spending 25 winters in Florida. He enjoyed boating on Cheat Lake and the Mon River at the Little Falls Boat Club. He loved hosting parties with friends from Morgantown and South American/Puerto Rico. Amos also enjoyed listening to Spanish music.
He then went on to work as a driver for Eastern and Quinn Freight Lines before becoming the Union President for Teamsters Local 491, out of Uniontown.

Amos is survived by his children; Larry Courtney and his girlfriend, Margi Williams, Cyndi Courtney Jones and husband, John; grandchildren: Sean Courtney and wife, Renee, of Mineral Wells, Nathan Courtney, and wife, Carla, of Morgantown, Erik Jones and Tyler Jones of Morgantown; great grandchildren: Levi, Abbie, and  Hayden Courtney.

In addition to his parents, Amos was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred (Jenkins) Courtney; son, Jeff; grandson, Jeremy; brother, David; and sisters, Margaret and Katy;

The family would like to offer a special thanks to all the staff at Pleasant Acres and Amedysis Hospice for the love and care that they gave him.

In accordance with his wishes, cremation services will be provided by Hastings Funeral Home, Omega Crematory. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens.
