Local arts scene offers a lot to choose from

Cindy O’Brien, Morgantown
Some of my friends chose to leave Morgantown when they retired, but I haven’t found the time even to plan such a move. And why would I?
There is so much to enjoy here. In just the past week or so, I’ve celebrated life in Morgantown is many ways.
The Morgantown Theater Company’s recent production of “Lion King Jr.” was astonishing, as always with that group. If you need a way to feel optimistic about the future, these young actors will buoy your spirits with their talent.
And down the street at Mon Arts, the current show featuring art work from area high school students will amaze you.
At the Mountaineer Mall (our repurposed mall), after attending an Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) class, I checked out the exhibit 60 at the Morgantown Art Association, to be amazed again by the artwork of local artists in this month’s show. Some works there are on a par with the art at the WVU art museum.
All three art venues have free admission. I had to pay to dance to the live music at the Friends of Old Time Music monthly dance at Marilla on Saturday, but the walk in the arboretum to see the outstanding show of spring wildflowers was free. As was the Concert in the Loft at Wesleyan Church, offered the second Sunday of each month. (This month the Hillbilly Gypsies performed.)
And then there was the play at WVU. Often, the dilemma I face is not what to do but to choose what not to do. My husband and I may take a little trip soon just to get some rest.
