Melvin “Gene” Cogar

Melvin “Gene” Cogar, 86, of Arthurdale, entered into eternal rest on Monday April 16, 2018, from the West Virginia Veterans Nursing Facility, in Clarksburg, surrounded by loving family and friends.
He was born July 8, 1931, in Sutton, the eldest son of the late Buster and Vera (Simmons) Cogar.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving in Korea. He worked 46 years as a crane operator with the IUOE Local 132, in Clarksburg. He belonged to the Preston Lodge 90 AF&AM, Monongalia Lodge 10 IOOF and Masontown VFW Post 1589. He was a member of the Reedsville United Methodist Church.
He is survived by two sons, Paul Eugene Cogar (Linda), of Sutton, and Seth Ashley Cogar (Vickie), of Arthurdale; a daughter, Anita Elizabeth Hornor (John), of Clarksburg; three brothers, Porter, Danny and Joe; three sisters, Betty, Sandra and Mary; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eillen in 1986; second wife, Mary in 2011; daughter, Melva Sankbeil; and four brothers, John Dale, Jim, Kenneth “Tink” and Gary.
Services will be held at the Arthurdale Cemetary at 11 a.m. on May 19, for a Masonic graveside service. A celebration of life luncheon will follow at the Reedsville UMC.
