Area facility does not forget the mentally ill

Ellen Hilling-Pirlo, Morgantown

There is a segment of society that is often forgotten. It is the mentally ill or handicapped, or should I say handicap-able. However, Valley Health Care on Scott Avenue, here in Morgantown, always remembers its clients’ needs.
It not only hosts the Day Program for activities, it also finds funding for activities during the holidays. Valley treats its clients to movies and sandwiches, and often it takes care of its own to help with seasonal depression by having parties with music, small gifts and food and activities.
Since I am a client there, I can say it does a wonderful job.
Most of all, we are provided an opportunity for exercise, camaraderie and the hope of spring, of course.
Notably, the mentally ill aren’t often thought about in this busy, technological society. They need socialization like everyone else, and a great deal of kindness.
On another subject, all I have to say is that the internet is useful; however, Facebook is a detriment to society.
It’s tearing families apart. I know from personal experience that it is breaking up family relationships, maternal and paternal. These young people, even millennials, use it to vent their emotions and frustration and personal drama to the point of hurting others. This is not new, of course, but it is frustrating for parents and other family members.
