District 4 commissioners will meet to discuss roads

KINGWOOD — County commissioners from the Division of Highways’ (DOH) District 4 will meet April 30 to discuss roads.
Last month Preston County Commissioners invited commissioners from the other counties in District 4 — Doddridge, Harrison, Marion, Mon and Taylor — to such a meeting. Monday Commissioners Craig Jennings, Dave Price and Don Smith said Harrison declined to participate, they are awaiting word from Marion, and the other counties plan to attend.
The meeting will be held in the evening to avoid conflict with other counties’ meeting times.
The DOH will not be invited to the initial get together. Jennings said this meeting will be to see what the consensus is about road maintenance and paving in District 4. Then that consensus will be taken to the DOH.
“I think if the state and district are getting one voice from all the counties, it carries more weight,” Jennings said.
At nearly every one of its recent meetings, the Preston Commission has heard or passed along complaints about road conditions that span the county.
Preston’s commissioners said they don’t blame the county DOH office for road conditions.
“The local guys have done what they could. It needs paved,” Jennings said.
