We need to look out for each other’s safety

Margaret Carrico, Star City

This letter is in response to the two recent pedestrian accidents around the Morgantown area in February.

On Feb. 1, a woman was struck by a vehicle while in a crosswalk on Patteson Drive and died later.

On Feb. 20, a pedestrian was hit and injured while crossing Monongahela Boulevard at the Creative Arts Center intersection.

On March 27, the driver of the vehicle in the Feb. 20 accident was charged with reckless driving, failure to obey a traffic control device and failure to use due care.

Drivers are not the only ones at fault in these situations. And pedestrians are not the only ones at fault in these situations.

In my opinion, drivers need to choose to decide for themselves not to run red lights. Pedestrians need to choose to decide for themselves to walk in crosswalks and not walk in dangerous places while using their earphones. Drivers need to concentrate on the roads.

Pedestrians and drivers will both benefit by making the roads safer to use.

We need to look out for each other’s safety.
