MPA warns of fraudulent parking tickets

MORGANTOWN — The Morgantown Parking Authority (MPA) is asking drivers to be aware about fraudulent parking tickets being issued in some of the city’s parking areas. On March 22, the MPA received several calls from concerned individuals.

“We have received calls about fraudulent parking tickets being issued in the Chestnut Street parking areas,” said Dana McKenzie, director of the Morgantown Parking Authority.

“If you received one of these fraudulent tickets, please contact the Parking Authority and disregard the ticket. We have contacted the Morgantown Police Department and alerted our parking enforcement staff.”

The fraudulent parking tickets show that the driver has been fined $100 and failure to pay may result in additional fines, arrest and/or vehicle seizure. However, in small print at the bottom of the ticket it states that the ticket was issued by a concerned citizen and is not an actual fine.

“Official parking citations are not hand written and come stuffed in an envelope that clearly state they were issued by the Morgantown Parking Authority,” said McKenzie.

For any questions regarding parking citations or to report a fraudulent ticket, contact the Morgantown Parking Authority at 304-284-7435.
