KINGWOOD — A Kingwood man is charged with robbing the Tobacco Barn on March 6.
David Anthony Wilhelm, 33, was arrested March 15 and was still in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on March 16.
According to the criminal complaint by Kingwood Police Chief T.A. Nestor, Wilhelm entered the store in east Kingwood wearing a hoodie, sunglasses and bandana to conceal his identity and demanded money from the register while brandishing a pocketknife with the blade extended.
He struggled with the clerk and left with only a carton of Marlboro Black cigarettes valued at $53.21. Police were able to watch him go Green Acres apartments next door on surveillance cameras. Along the way around the apartments, he shed his disguise in view of the cameras.
A witness reported seeing him enter an apartment, where Nestor recovered clothing Wilhelm was seen wearing, a knife and five packs of the cigarettes.
