Preston commissioners discuss honoring recent national wrestling winner

KINGWOOD — Preston commissioners discussed honoring wrestler Terrance Fanning at their meeting March 12.

Fanning, a Preston High graduate, won the NCAA Division II 285 weight class national championship.

Commission President Craig Jennings brought up the championship and suggested the possibility of naming the section of Preston Drive from W.Va. 26 past the Wrestling Barn by Preston High to the intersection with Knight Drive after Fanning.

A national championship is an honor for the whole state, he said.

“I thought it might be sort of nice, since the Wrestling Barn is up there, and that’s sort of where Terrence came from,” Jennings said.

County Administrator Kathy Mace said she was told by the county mapping and addressing said it that traditionally roads not be broken into segments and renamed.

If that isn’t possible, perhaps a plaque could be done, recognizing Fanning and other wrestlers’ achievements, Jennings said. No action was taken on the request
