Newburg water line construction, “good to go”

NEWBURG — The Independence water line extension is close to starting construction.
A grant agreement from the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection Office of Abandoned Mine Land means the project is “good to go,” Sheena Hunt, executive director of the Region VI Planning and Development Council, told Newburg Council March 6.
Newburg has worked toward providing water to the neighboring unincorporated community of Independence since 2008.

Mayor Edgar Fortney said the project, which could start as early as May and will take the water line as far as the former Independence School. Water will be provided to about 22 homes.
