2 apply to fill Preston circuit judge’s position

CHARLESTON — Two people have applied to fill the Preston circuit judge’s spot until the May election.

Jan. 24 was the deadline for people to apply for the appointment.

Leonard Knee, of Reedsville, and Michael Bevers, of Charleston, applied for the appointment. Their applications, along with any recommendations made by others, will be considered by the 11 members of the Judicial Vacancy Advisory Commission.

Circuit Judge Lawrance Miller Jr. announced his retirement in December. The governor now must choose someone to fill the position until someone is elected in May to complete the remainder of Miller’s term.
