Five Preston teachers win grants for tech projects

KINGWOOD — Since the 2015-‘16 instructional year, the Preston County Schools Technology Department has sponsored a Technology Mini Grant Program that allows teachers to write brief proposals for up to $5,000.

The money is to be used for instructional technology tools and professional development to enhance classroom instruction, and benefit the classroom and potentially the school at-large. The program has annually been budgeted for $10,000 from the district Local Share, Step 7 budget fund.

During the 2015-‘16 school year, 11 proposals were submitted and four projects were funded through the program. During the 2016-‘17 school year, the program grew to 34 proposals, with five projects being funded. This year, 24 proposals were submitted and five projects were funded.

Winning teachers this year are Central Preston Middle School teacher Jodi Myers, Central Preston Middle teachers Ellen Shubert and Cathy Robinson, West Preston School teacher Kim Floyd, Kingwood Elementary teacher Tiffany Sheets and Bruceton teacher Mishel Heaney.
